TIP Project #2018-77-064: Mt. Juliet Intelligent Transportation System & Signal Improvements

Proposed Amendment (revision)

The proposed project will improve traffic operations at 13 intersections along Mt. Juliet Road (SR-171) from Central Pike (SR-265) to East Division Street and at the Mt. Juliet City Hall located at the intersection of Mt. Juliet Road (SR-171) and East Hill Street. This project proposes to install aerial and underground fiber optic cable along Mt. Juliet Road from Central Pike to the Mt. Juliet City Hall for a total length of approximately 3.7 miles. The traffic operations center (TOC) at City Hall will be expanded to manage the thirteen (13) traffic signals along the corridor. Additional improvements include the construction of a new signal at the intersection of Mt. Juliet Road and NW Rutland Road and upgrades to four (4) signals that will receive a combination of new controllers and cabinets, vehicle detection, and flashing yellow arrows. Other improvements include the installation of ADA-compliant curb ramps, audible/vibrotactile pedestrian push-buttons, countdown pedestrian signal heads, and signing and striping where appropriate.
